Likewise, the aforementioned Gambit map unvaulting + new enemy types is the first time that Gambit has gotten any new content or extensive refreshing beyond balance tweaking since The Vaultening. well, two-fold, but all the same thing: it boils down to content.Įxpectations for Crucible and Gambit content have gotten so low that a single new Crucible map a mere year after the last one is huge news. And to put concerns to rest right now: The Final Shape and its raid will provide a climactic conclusion to the Light and Darkness Saga before we look ahead to what comes next in Destiny 2.Īnyway, the ritual updates otherwise are generally okay. With those players in mind, we believe the totality of this year’s narratives will set the stage for The Final Shape in ways that a single story beat never could. We know there are some who would have preferred to experience these stories during Lightfall’s campaign. We’ve already proven this out in Season of the Deep with the revelations of The Witness’s origins, substantial lore drops throughout the Season in Neomuna, and the implications of where our Guardians go from here after the final mission’s cutscene. We’re taking the feedback to heart and loading this year up with important moments designed to capture players’ imaginations and move the saga forward with each beat. Taking a step back to examine the overall narrative for the year, the team is laser-focused on ensuring the connective tissue in our storytelling between Seasons 20-23 and The Final Shape is more impactful than last year’s Seasons were leading up to Lightfall. I can't imagine anything on that showcase being enough to change that. But this State of the Game just shows Bungie's vision for this game is not the game I want to play. I was expecting nothing from the showcase, but a little bit hopeful it would hype me up. Now they make this promise the Final Shape sets will look better (spoiler: they will look like shit still) and when they deliver, they'll say "actually, no one is using them so no more ritual sets ever again". Of course, they're ugly as fuck, they're even the same set across the three modes just with different decals. What was the last time Bungie delivered a Vanguard/Crucible/Gambit set that looked decent? Forsaken, 5 years ago? And they say that no one uses those sets. Or the vendor refresh for Lightfall, now cancelled. They kill the fucking mode and pretend they are surprised at engagement numbers. Sure a 2018 map will save the mode, Bungie. Gambit players are being punished once more for having some standard and not playing the mode without any support. Gambit has been abandoned and they know it. I used to grind the strike playlist all day long in D1, I just can't come near it in current D2 because there are no meaningful rewards. Good for them the "population is stable" so they don't have to put some effort like strike specific loot. Congratulations to keeping up with Rise of Iron, Bungie. Medals on strikes? What year is this? 2016? Rise of Iron came out 7 fucking years ago. If they want to drop the PvP they should do it and stop running around people who actually like the PvP. You don't need do that to admit you're understaffed. Also, pitting the demands of new maps against the production of new activities and exotic missions? They just wanted to put more fire in the "rivalry" between PvE and PvP. I've been playing since launch, I'm not by any means a hardcore PvP player, but them saying new maps is a hardcore player demand doesn't bode well. The only thing that’s changed since my Witch Queen predictions is that I no longer think this will be rooted in Hive Soulfire or Throne World swamp magic, but the new idea is that the infestation of Egregore on the Leviathan and in the HELM maybe the basis of that subclass.I was not expecting anything good from this State of the Game, and yet I left disappointed. We already have early bones for that subclass in place with the poison “element” existing with Osteo Striga, Thorn and Necrotic Grips already. What I am not changing my view about is the theme of the new subclass, which I do believe will remain poison or decay focused. I suppose the one time I stop guessing that could happen could be the one time it actually does happen. I do not believe Bungie has anything insane like a fully new enemy race hidden up their sleeves for this, but I mean, who knows. Like, The Witness is coming, but we have zero idea what essential elements of the expansion will arrive with him, like a new patrol zone, or which enemy race will be the main focus of the expansion. Unlike The Witch Queen, we have effectively no sense at this point what Lightfall is about at all.
